A Beginner's Guide To Google+ Marketing

Apr 17, 2017

Google+ is Google’s social network which they launched in 2011.

If you’re like most health & wellness businesses on the internet, you’ve probably delayed your investment in Google+ in the hopes of a clear sign that it’s time to get on board. Building a presence on Google+ is now a better idea than ever.

Google has revamped the platform and relaunched a new and improved version which emphasizes social networking and building communities around shared interests. It puts communities and collections, 2 of its most requested features, front and center making it easier for people who share the same interests to connect.

Google+ is also more mobile-friendly. It has been rebuilt across iOS and Android to ensure a fast and consistent experience across all types of devices.

With these exciting new features, you can use a combination of new and old strategies to get the best ROI for your business.

Here are some tips to help you get started.

Take advantage of Google+ Collections to promote your health & wellness brand

Collections allows users to organize their updates according to topics, which helps your followers find updates quickly based on subjects that match their interests.

If your health & wellness brand offers a variety of products and services, if you organize many different types of networking events, or if you and your employees take part in non-profit campaigns, then you have a lot of content to use in Google+.

Some health & wellness enthusiasts use Google+ Collections to document different types of recipes, health and fitness tips, as well as motivational quotes. Their followers can be updated through the collection of their choice based on their interests.

The idea is somewhat like using Pinterest, but with the goal of using visual content to encourage engagement on Google+.

You can also link your collection to your Google+ Business Page. This is helpful to increase followers on your pages, and also encourage engagement.

Tap third-party posts and content

Health & wellness brands usually create and post their own content on social networks and expect engagement in return. However, they pay less attention to third-party posts, which are an untapped channel for encouraging engagement.

To do this you should comment on an influencer’s post and include your thoughts and insights. The whole idea is to build new relationships with influencers and other users with the same interests.

You can also recycle content posted by others and share it on your own account, whether on your page, community, or collection. Consider adding your own thoughts or opinion before reposting to give a touch of originality to the content.

By adding insight to content that you don’t own, you can position yourself as an expert in the health & wellness industry and also give your audience the impression that your brand can add value rather than strictly self promotion.

Add YouTube videos to your Google+ Page

Videos are one of the most shared forms of content across all social networks. On Google+, you can either post a direct video or connect your YouTube channel to your account so any user can see all your YouTube videos in a separate tab.

Leverage social media marketing tools

With the help of some social media marketing tools, you can give your Google+ marketing strategy a boost.

Friends+Me is a tool that helps you schedule and re-share content and re-share it on your Google+ page. The service has a small monthly fee, but you get the option to post in most areas of Google+ where your target audience is most active.

Participate in Google+ Communities

Google has put greater focus on this area over the years. You can either create your own Google+ community or contribute to other communities to engage with your targeted audience.

Creating your own Google+ community requires you to invest a lot of time and effort. Creating, moderating and managing a community can end up being a full time endeavor.

Contributing to relevant communities is more or less the same as posting content on your page. The dialogue box and options are the same but there are some basic etiquette to follow when posting:

Refine your content

Post relevant content instead of automated content. This way you will be able to engage your audience longer and they will keep coming back for more.

Avoid posting at once in several communities

Stick to 1 or 2 Communities before posting in others to drive greater engagement.

Make sure you read and respect the community guidelines

Failing to do so can get you banned.

Use hashtags

Hashtags are referred to as the new “free ads” on social media. On Google+, hashtags are used to allow brands and individuals to discover a trending topic.

You have the option to either use hashtags suggested by Google+ or come up with your own hashtags. You can also use the explore area for trending hashtags.

You can use more than 1 hashtag, but the average number is about 2 to 3 per post. It is recommended to limit to using not more than 5 per post. You might give your audience the impression that you’re desperate for attention should you use more than the average number of hashtags in your post.

Don’t forget to include your health & wellness brand name in one of your hashtags to get more visibility for your own page. It’s also a good way to get a conversation going around your brand name.

Summary

Google+ may have had a slow start in social media, but with the revamp it has proven to have a lot of depth.

The growing functionality of the network is exciting, with the improvement of their “communities” feature, it has become easy to see potential from a conversation and engagement perspective.

Your health & wellness business will have more to benefit by including yet another social media platform to widen its reach since you can never have too many channels to connect and engage with your targeted audience.
